HalloWeekends Changes Names of Haunts
Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH will be changing the names of a couple haunts this Halloween season to please mental health advocates that complained last year.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, said Cedar Point promoted false stereotypes last Halloween by calling a haunted house "Dr. D. Menteds Asylum for the Criminally Insane" and a musical show "The Edge of Madness: Still Crazy."
The Sandusky Register quotes CEO Dick Kinzel of parent company Cedar Fair as saying the haunted house will keep the hospital theme but be renamed. He says Cedar Point doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
A park spokesman says the show will change to "The Edge of Madness: Six Feet Under."
NAMI Ohio chapter executive director Terry Russell says Cedar Point is moving in the right direction.

World's Longest Horror House is Crowned!
On July,15h 2010 Guiness World Records declared Lewisburg Haunted Cave as the world's longest walk-through horror house after measuring it at 3,564 feet. Right now the haunt isn't promoting this huge accomplishment that well with only one mention of it on their website. Hopefully they advertise it on banners, billboards and signs this haunt season because a big accomplishment like this will only increase ticket sales. It costs thousands for a haunt to have Guiness World Records to travel to the United States and verify a record, so hopefully they get their money's worth.

The Land Of Illusion Will Start Off the Haunt Season!
The haunt season will be here sooner than later. The season officially kicks off with the opening of The Land of Illusion in Middletown, OH on September 2nd. As far as I know, this is one of the earliest openings for a haunt with the exception of haunts that are open year round. The crowds will obviously be small opening weekend for LOI. But considering how much marketing they do, we all may be surprised at how many people show up early in the season. Their brand new haunt "Field of Screams" may also help entice those who want to get lost in the corn.

Farmers Revenge Coming Soon!
Sandyland Acres Haunted Hayride in Petersburg, Kentucky is making a lot of changes for the 2011 haunt season. New this year is their brand new attraction "Farmers Revenge. This new attraction is an indoor haunted house/maze that's inside 2 barns. There's little known about Farmers Revenge, but we'll be sure to keep you up to date when more information comes in. In the mean time you can visit Sandyland Acres' new site at www.sandylandacres.com.
The Rise Of The Websites!
Every year about a couple months before the haunt season begins, many new haunt websites pop up. It's cool to see how haunts want to be percieved from year to year and 2011 is no different. The Fear Experience in North Olmsted, OH has a brand new website which is much cleaner than previous websites they've had. It's fast and not confusing in the slightest bit. They have even created a professional quality commercial that features clips from the haunt and people's reactions to what they just experienced.
Other websites that are new this year include Sandyland Acres in Petersburg, KY. Their new website is themed perfectly and gives you an idea of what the haunt is really like. Freddy Krueger and Leatherface hiding in the cornfield was also a great touch as well as the crows serving as icons for the menu. I also can't forget about Dungeons of Delhi in Cincinnati, OH. Their new website is a huge step up from previous years. It's a bit cutting edge and includes an improved logo for the haunt. It will be interesting to see how different haunts overhaul their sites this season and please don't forget to visit the ones I just mentioned by visiting the links below.
