MHC 2018 Pre-Convention Haunt Bus Tour Info!

Here is the latest news on the MHC Pre-Convention Bus Tour
The Midwest Haunters Convention is returning with a two day bus tour that includes 9 haunted attractions, plus a stop in Hell for Ice Cream. We'll be touring haunts throughout NW Ohio and SE Michigan. Some haunts on the tour are located in historic or unique buildings. We have a prison, schoolhouse, Hydro plant and scream parks. A couple are truly haunted and half of them have been in operation for 10+ years. One is a former record holder of the longest haunted attraction in the world.

Some have 3D attractions, some are 4+ stories tall and most will be dark and staffed with actors.
We're spending the night in Auburn Hills, Michigan. You'll make your own hotel reservations for only $89 with tax for 1 to 4 people per room. We'll make a couple meal stops offering multiple choices including a world renowned restaurant that originated in 1932. This is going to be memorable trip and we're limited to 200 lucky participants.

Tickets start at $345. Includes admission to all 9 haunted attractions, charter bus transportation with entertainment, most meals and snacks. Go to www.midwestshow.com to register now.
The tour originates in Columbus, Ohio. Here's a list of our haunts and stops.

Wednesday, May 23
Lessons in Fear, Perrysville, Oh. An old schoolhouse, built in 1924. After years of vacancy, this haunted schoolhouse brought fright into this small community. Get ready to be schooled in the lesson of fear. With just two seasons under their belt, the haunt encompasses three floors of fright. There are many challenges to open in a former schoolhouse. John and Flo will shared their experiences working with a rural community and overcoming numerous hurdles. They're making plans to serve us a great lunch too.

Ohio State Reformatory, Mansfield, Oh. Includes a paranormal tour of this historic haunted building and a Haunt Tour of Blood Prison. The Ohio State Reformatory was built in 1886 and closed in 1990 with a ghostly past. Since the prison opened its gates to the public, it has been considered among ghost hunters as one of the most active haunted places in the United States. Escape from Blood Prison received great reviews and praise from industry professions this past season. You'll be able to tour both attractions with a lights on tour, but bring a flashlight, some portions may be completely dark and be prepared for anything; this place is truly unpredictable.

Rotten Manor, Holly, Mi. In only their third season, Rotten Manor has become one of the premier attractions in the Michigan haunt scene. It boasts the largest custom structures of any haunted attraction in Michigan; a highly-detailed, theatrical, and immersive experience in fear. New in 2017, they added a Midway with old school carnival games, casket ride, photo ops and concessions. In 2017, The Scare Factor review scored them a 9.55. Includes a snack.

Saint Lucifer's Scream Park, Haunted Asylum, Grand Blanc Township, Mi. The haunts are set up at Playland Fun Center, Michigan’s oldest fun center since 1969. They have arcade games, go-kart tracks, mini-golf and an escape room. They set up a temporary haunt during the season and they'll have it up for our bus tour. You'll see how to incorporate a haunted attraction into your family entertainment center. Saint Lucifer's Asylum for the Mentally Insane is a cutting edge psychiatric hospital specializing in electroshock therapy. The stories of macabre events happening to innocent people were told everywhere. The state ordered it closed in 1974. Join us on the tour to St. Lucifer's and discover for yourself the meaning of fear. Includes pizza after your tour!

Erebus, Pontiac, Mi. Erebus was founded in 2000 and has gained national recognition as being one of the top haunts as well as earning the Guinness Book of World Records for the world's longest walk-through haunted attraction in 2005. They held that title through 2009! Erebus leads it's victims through four stories of unique and terrifying paths with fear so intense some call it PAIN! This is one haunt everybody will be talking about. After your tour; head to the roof for snacks and refreshments.

Thursday, May 24
Hush Haunted Attraction, Westland, MI – Start the morning with a scream, as we journey deep into the town of HUSH Falls. The town has been overtaken by a government-tested virus, and now all citizens have been infected. Wander the streets, alleyways, shops, sewers, and tunnels as you try to evade the hordes of bloodthirsty and demented creatures. You’ll feel as though you’ve been transported to a slice of New Orleans, complete with highly detailed scenes, original concepts, creative set designs, stellar acting and tons of eye candy around every corner!

Hell, Michigan, Stop for lunch, ice cream, photos and shopping at a most unique location. Lunch is on your own; they'll have several food options at reasonable prices. Everyone gets a complimentary ice cream sundae! We'll visit Screams Souvenirs from Hell & Screams Ice Cream. Their gift shop has a wide range of gifts from hell and Halloween decorations.

Awaken, Leslie, Mi. Awaken is Mid-Michigan's newest haunt featuring over 13,000 scary square feet of horror. With only two seasons under their belt, Awaken is quickly climbing the charts with reviewers and we're looking forward to see what they have prepared for us. They're known for Hollywood quality sets, high quality actors, and an action packed, heart pumping event. Many of their authentic props come with a very eerie active past, such as old funeral homes, churches and haunted estates. A good scream is just what we need after lunch to keep us going. Here's a chance to see how a former auto dealership has been converted into an very impressive haunted attraction.

Jackson’s Underworld, Jackson, Mi. Jackson's Underworld Extreme Haunted House is 4 stories, over 115,000 sq ft. It takes an averages 45 minutes and just under one mile long of creature lurking, thrill seeking, adrenaline rushing, heart racing haunted attraction!

Thursday Dinner stop - This meal stop will be on your own. We're offering a variety of restaurants with economical choices: Tony Packo's, Wendy's, Burger King or Subway in Sylvania, Ohio (north side of Toledo). The buses will park in a central location and the restaurants are within a short walk. We'll have 90 minutes to eat. Tony Packo's was made world famous in the 70's by Corporal Klinger from MASH. Many celebrities have visited "Packo's" for Hungarian specialties and drinks. Check out their website menu and background on this historic restaurant, www.tonypacko.com.

Haunted Hydro, Fremont, Oh. The Haunted Hydro resides in a “REAL” decommissioned hydroelectric power plant built in 1911 on the Sandusky River. It’s believed the catastrophic floods of 1911 and 1913 (which caused many deaths and severe destruction) created a curse on the building. This facility has provided many paranormal groups vast resources for unique and successful investigations. This is the only one of its kind haunt in the United States and is the perfect setting for a haunted house business. We’ll tour all areas of the formidable concrete hydro plant except the basement. The Haunted Hydro Dark Attraction Park, still under the original ownership of Crazy Bob and Beth Turner, will be celebrating their 29th season of screams in 2018. The building and additional attractions are true to the “old school style haunting” with highly trained seasoned performers and a scream park atmosphere alongside the river. The tour will include admission to one of their three high-speed escape rooms. The Crazy Bob Shirt Shack and Gift Shop will be opened as well as the Museum/Ghouls Gallery for your enjoyment as well. This will be our last stop for the tour and we’re confident the Haunted Hydro will provide memorable entertainment for our group! Warning from Crazy Bob… “Expect the Unexpected!”

Hotel info - We're spending the night in one of the top Quality Inn locations; they’ve received a platinum award for exceptional service from Choice Hotels. Our host hotel is the Quality Inn Hotel, Auburn Hills, Michigan. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, a free hot/cold breakfast buffet, a fitness center and a meeting room for our group upon arrival. Guest rooms include a high-definition flat-screen television, refrigerator, desk, coffee maker and hair dryer. We have a block of rooms with a King size bed (up to 2 guests per room) and Doubles with two queen beds (up to 4 guests per room). Our room rate is $80 ($89 with tax), attendees will reserve their own room.

Bus info - We'll ride in comfortable charter buses and provide bus monitors with videos, games and prizes. You are welcome to bring overnight luggage and small coolers to store under the bus. We are limited to four buses and 200 total guests.

Haunted Hoorah Forced To Move!

Haunted Hoorah in Ashley, Ohio is encountering a major problem this haunt season. The Buckeye Valley School District is suing them and the reason is eminent domain. They can seize the land for their own use because they’re a government entity. The district is building a new elementary school and a portion will be on the same land Haunted Hoorah is currently using. This includes a bus loop. The school district only offered $95,000 for the land when it’s worth $330, 000. Haunted Hoorah will have a different location next season. There will soon be a civil trial scheduled for March at the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas.

Netherworld Haunted House Moves In 2018!

2017 Halloween Season Marks the Final Year in Norcross!

ATLANTA – After one final season at the longtime Norcross Antique Center location this fall, NETHERWORLD Haunted House will relocate to a brand new facility in Stone Mountain, Georgia, the first major move for the world famous haunted house in 20 years. Conveniently located just off of US 78 in Gwinnett County, the 9.5 acre property was purchased by NETHERWORLD in early March. The new location will allow for a large expansion of the haunts, new attractions including year round Escape Games, and increased parking.

“We are pleased and excited that NETHERWORLD is relocating within the Evermore Community Improvement District of Gwinnett. With the recreational history of Stone Mountain coupled with the fact that the Tennis Center is being removed, NETHERWORLD will be the first new venue to change the face of the area. Ultimately, we are looking at creating an entertainment complex to give residents a higher quality of life within the district,” said Evermore CID Executive Director Jim Brooks.
The new location, with nearly ten acres of property and 70,000 square feet of space will also feature expanded retail areas and extensive indoor queuing. In addition to new attractions, the location will also offer attendees a myriad of other amenities, including dozens of restaurants and entertainment options close by.

“Over the last 20 years NETHERWORLD Haunted House has continued to grow and attract more and more fright fans each year,” said Billy Messina, co-owner of NETHERWORLD. “After looking at many locations around the greater Atlanta area, we found the Stone Mountain property and were blown away by how perfect it would be for our operation. Not only is there room to expand our Haunted Attractions, but we’ll also be able to explore new types of themed experiences which we simply don’t have room for at our current location.”

The first to be unveiled will be “Escape the NETHERWORLD” in late summer of 2017, a thrilling series of challenge games that will test the problem solving skills of attendees. Though Escape Games in general are not particularly scary ventures, if you’d like a bit of a scream, NETHERWORLD will offer guests a choice between a “scary” and “not scary” version of their games. Whichever version patron’s experience, they will be sure to see the same high level of detail, theming and fun that NETHERWORLD Haunted House is so well known for. “We’re excited to be opening the Escape Games this summer in Stone Mountain, but we’re equally focused on and excited about NETHERWORLD opening this September for one last season in the place we’ve called “home” for two decades. We’re working really hard to make this final season in Norcross our most epic to date.” Messina further stated.

In its final year at 6624 Dawson Blvd., NETHERWORLD Haunted House is ready to terrify with two new attractions in 2017: PRIMAL SCREAM and Dr. GRENDEL’S FUNHOUSE of HORROR in 3D! The season launches the weekend of Friday, September 22 – Saturday, September 23 and opens seven days a week starting Friday, September 29 through Halloween. The final nights to experience NETHERWORLD at the Norcross location will be Friday, November 3 – Sunday, November 5.
“NETHERWORLD is a world-class haunted attraction. They are powerful marketers who have had an incredible economic impact in Gwinnett.” said Nick Masino, Chief Economic Development Officer at Partnership Gwinnett. “After 20 years, their name and Gwinnett County have become synonymous and we knew it was important to keep them here. We are thrilled that this has been accomplished.”
